15 of the World’s Coolest Battle-Tested Tanks
7. Leopard 2A7+ (Germany)
First revealed in 2010, the Leopard 2A7 was developed and manufactured by the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, in cooperation with the German Army. This was also based from the Leopard 2A6 MBT, thus will include some sub-systems of the Leopard 2 Peace Support Operation variant. According to its designers and manufacturers, the Leopard 2A7 is designed for urban warfare, conventional military operations and low intensity conflicts. Protection for the Leopard is improved as well, and now fitted with extra passive armour. The tank is also fitted with 360° protection against RPG round. And since the design of the armor is modular, the repair and replacement can be made in the field.
The latest version of the German tank is fitted with the FLW 200 modular remote controlled light weapon station tasked for defensive purposes. For its weapon system, this tank is fitted with opto-electronic equipment and vehicle detection capability. The tank heavily depends on the 120mm L55/L44 smooth bore, and can be integrated with the 7.62mm machine gun and grenade launcher. Also, smoke grenade launchers can be fitted on either sides if the weapon stations.
