15 of the World’s Coolest Battle-Tested Tanks
9. AMX-56 Leclerc (France)
The French forces also deliver a competent tank, the Char Leclerc, one of the best tanks in use in the world. This French tank is named after General Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque, who was in command of the French forces during the Second World War, towards Paris. This tank has been in French service since 1992, and at one point, was considered as the most expensive tanks in the world. Its status was replaced by the K2 Black Panther with the devaluation of euro.
For protection, the Leclerc is protected by the GALIX combat vehicle protection, which can fire a variety of smoke grenade, anti-personnel grenades and infrared screening rounds. The turret and hull are both made from welded steel, with modular armour that allows for easy replacement at the field in case of damages. The Chobham armour was initially planned for the tank, but this was soon replaced by a composite armour.
France’s Leclerc has been upgraded and improved multiple times, and have been used in a number of war-torn areas, including in Yemen for its civil wars.
