5. Ford Pinto
The Ford Pinto was a subcompact car that was in the market from 1970 to 1981, and a Ford entry that was the subject of ridicule and complaints coming from consumers and media. It all started with the bland design of the Pinto, and the choice of features. But more than the car design; the Pinto is always included in the list of bad cars due to its faulty design and construction. According to engineers, the Pinto is not fitted with a heavyweight bumper and reinforcement between the gas tank and the rear panel. So when the car is rear-ended on the road, the fuel tank will get ruptured thus risking an explosion. What fanned the flames was the ‘supposed memo’ that was released to company executives that basically ignored the problem, thus putting the Ford Pinto in a much-larger mess!
