7: Not Using the Parking Brake
This is less of a problem for people with manual transmissions, as they don’t have a park gear, however people with automatics seemingly never use their parking brake. This is bad for the car, as while the transmission does have a “park” gear, it isn’t designed to be used alone to hold the car. Sure, it’s capable of holding the car, but this places unneeded stress on the transmission, and can even cause damage. Furthermore, when they do use it, they forget to disengage it when they drive away, which places wear on the brakes. Parking brakes exist for a reason, so why not use it.
