What’s with Honda vehicles and car thieves? For the last few years, top-rated Honda models including Accord and Civic have been ranked on top of the list of most-stolen vehicles. In the listing of NICB, it listed the Honda Civic as the second most stolen next to its sibling, the Civic with 45,001 Civics stole in 2013. Although the lead Honda models were the ‘most stolen’, it should be qualified that the cars were primarily older model Honda cars. For example, if the baseline year is 2013 where more than 300,000 Civics were sold, the number of stolen Civics will not even merit a Top 15 showing in the list of hot cars. One reason for the popularity of Honda cars on the list of thieves is that older Honda models far outnumber the other car models on the road. Since Honda vehicles have been consistently rated as the best-selling nameplates in the last few years, it is only natural that they have a higher chance of being picked up by a car thief compared to a nameplate that’s unpopular. Also, anti-theft security before 1997 was easy to compromise, thus older model cars were stolen compared to newer ones.
