There is no doubt that the automobile industry has produced many marvellous and striking models in its nearly 130 years of gas-powered glory. However, along the line, revolutionary concepts sometimes go over people’s heads. And what looked futuristic turned out to be absolutely unusual and the some models just fell out of favor.

Automotive design, like all art, is subjective. There are no defined rules to truly declare a car ugly. However, while considering the saying “I know it when I see it”, the hunt for the ugliest car of all time can take you into different dimensions you would never expect, including art, engineering and culture.

Even though each one of these models before seeing dealer’s showrooms light made it through a focus groups, design process, and executive review, the concepts on which they are based somehow exceedingly crossed people’s standard mindset and often proved to have limited lifespan.

It is mystery sometimes thinking about those designers’ minds that created such repugnant styling and it seems especially true with such car models that there is a fine line between aesthetic brilliance and stylistic nightmare.

So, here is a list of the 10 ugliest cars of all time:

Pontiac Aztek

Pontiac Aztek

This mid-size crossover was produced from the 2001 model year to the 2005 model year. Marketed as a sport recreational vehicle, this vehicle has been proved to be a commercial failure and is commonly cited as one of the worst automobiles ever produced. This model is often cited to have breached every principle of aesthetics. There are numerous titles for the Aztek’s ugliness: hammered body shape, slab-sided, too small head and rear lights, a trash can like bumper, rear end resembling minivan, roller-skate-sized wheels. In fact, the Aztec resembles a spawn of an unholy union of concepts.
