Lorry driver ‘joke’ (November 2008)
Jeremy first sparked massive controversy when he made an offhand remark to the other presenters when driving Lorries. He said: “What matters to lorry drivers? Murdering prostitutes? Fuel economy?” He added: “This is a hard job [driving a lorry] and I’m not just saying this to win favour with lorry drivers: change gear; change gear; change gear; check your mirrors; murder a prostitute …” While ofcom cleared Clarkson that the remarks were within their programming code of conduct, others didn’t brush it out so casually.
