5.Set the terms in owning a car
You need to set the terms after you have selected the car, and before you turn over the key. If possible, you can talk with your kid, or draft a ‘friendly contract’ that will guide the use of the new car. For example, you can set certain limits in using and driving the car, like how many passengers can it take at a time, and who will pay for the gas and car maintenance. Also, it’s best to come up with rules in case something happens on the road, like getting a traffic ticket. Will he get a reprimand, or the driving privileges will be curtailed for a week? Is there a curfew to follow?
Although you have given him the keys to the car does not mean that he can drive and do everything. There has to be a limit, and as a parent, you should share your concerns to your kid.
