3.Caspian Sea Monster
It was the US Intelligence services that gave the name ‘Caspian Sea Monster’, and this label stuck with this monstrous seaplane. Officially known as the MD-160, this Russian military vehicle was conceived as an experimental ground effect vehicle that’s designed to fly but will stay close to the ground to take advantage of ground effect. During its time, this was considered as the largest airplane that measures 240 feet long, 63 feet tall, and has a 144-foot wing span. The Caspian Sea Monster is designed to carry up to 137 tons of equipment and troops, and can also accommodate six nuclear missiles.
Although the Caspian Sea Monster is a large vehicle that’s dependable when it comes to transporting equipment, troops and arms, it was considered a weak issue from the Russians. The airplane is too slow and difficult to maneuver, thus making this an easy target for the opposing forces.
