15 of the World’s Coolest Battle-Tested Tanks
3. K2 Black Panther (South Korea)
South Korea has been traditionally known for superior military arms and technologies, particularly the presence of K1 and K1A1 tanks. But with increasing challenges and threats from North Korea, the government decided to upgrade their tanks that are also anchored on domestic technologies. One product of this development is the K2 Black Panther of South Korea. This new tank was manufactured starting 2013, and now the main tank for the South Korean army.
At the core of the K2 is the 120mm L/55 smoothbore gun, complemented by the autoloader, which can deliver up to 10 rounds per minute. This is also fitted with a 12.7mm K-6 machine gun, and another 7.62. For its secondary weapons, the K2 Black Panther is fitted with 12.7 mm K-6 machine gun heavy machine and another 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun. Just like the latest tank from the Russian forces, the K2 is considered as one of the most advanced battle tanks in the world, even edging out the war capabilities of the tanks from China and North Korea. In terms of cost, this tank made by Hyundai is also one of the most expensive in the lot, priced at $7.5 million.
